Sweden worked together to go 1-2 while the United States achieved a surprising victory in the women’s cross country skiing sprint final. Johanna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist took gold and silver, with Jessie Diggins coming in for the bronze. The Minnesota native, who won gold four years ago in the team sprint added her second at the Zhangjiakou National Cross Country Skiing Centre.

Six athletes qualified for the final 1.5km lap with everything at stake in such a short time. Diggins had Rosie Brennan in tow with her, giving Sweden and Team USA at least two in the final.

Sweden completely went out front taking the pace out hot with the Americans in the back. Diggins stayed behind them. Sundling got a jump from her teammates while the last five were tight. Diggins and Brennan moved faster with Diggins taking the move herself. Diggins went stride for stride with Dahlqvist and came in third with Brennan coming in fourth. Diggins clinched the United States’ third cross country skiing medal in history and the first since Pyeongchang.
