Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo and Federico Pellegrino accomplish back-to-back gold and silvers at the Beijing 2022 Olympics Tuesday. The Norwegian and Italian stayed neck and neck to come to the finish line the same way four years ago in the men’s cross country skiing sprint final at the Zhangjiakou National Cross Country Skiing Centre. Klaebo clinched his fourth gold medal at the Olympics with the 32-year-old Italian enjoying another silver to his accomplishments. Alexander Terentev of the ROC gained the silver, scoring his first Olympic medal.
The top six men qualified for the final with the Italian and Norwegian back for the second straight Olympics. Klaebo and Pellegrino got out front with the pair of the ROC behind them. Oskar Svensson got to the side of the leaders and then fell back when they came down the hill. Klaebo and Pellegrino continued to keep the pace despite the pressure that was on them in a final few hundred meters.
At the line, it was a close finish, but the Norwegian took the victory in 2:58.06 with Pellegrino coming in .26 back. Taking third was Terentev, who crossed a second later, capturing his first medal.
