Bouchard accepts defeat at Coupe Banque Nationale

Eugenie Bouchard suffered a rough outing at the Coupe Banque Nationale Thursday night. The world number 48 suffered on offense with a struggling second serve that easily gave Alla Kudryavtseva a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win on Court Banque Nationale.

The Canadian had another good start to being in familiar territory capable of defeating her opponents. She kept her first round match in straight sets dispatching Mandy Minella. The 22-year-old hoped to get the same result against the Russian like she did two years ago in Charleston. While Bouchard’s game still requires plenty of work, she could find herself doing well as one of two Canadian players left in the tournament.

She held her end scoring a love service to start the match. The Russian gave it her all to force deuce on her serve and held things together. The pace remained the same through four games until Kudryavtseva broke in the fifth and changed the course of the set. Due to the rough second serve of Bouchard, the 28-year-old took off with the set winning on serve in the sixth. She added a third straight in the seventh to lead 5-2 worrying the majority Canadian crowd. Kudryavtseva quickly put an end to the Montreal native breaking her a second straight game ending the set in 32 minutes.

The Russian looked like the dominant one going into the second as she carried her four game winning streak breaking Bouchard in the first game. She continued getting the best of the 22-year-old making it six straight and a cause for concern. The barrage came to an end in the third as the Canadian pleased the crowd with a service hold in the third.

The number one seed trailed the Russian tennis star who was on a run to an upset. Kudryavtseva stood at a commanding 5-3 lead more than ready to put down the hammer on the Canadian. She did it perfectly with a win in the ninth capping off a well-deserved victory that took her 1 hour and two minutes to finish.

While the Russian managed to win 11 of 14 on the first serve, her returning percentage was the support she needed to take out one of Canada’s popular players. For Kudryavtseva, she’ll continue on in the tournament facing American Lauren Davis in the quarterfinal
